Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Wins First Championship in 882 Days
19 of the Russian's 21 championships have been earned on hard courts
A revitalized Medvedev secured his first championship for over two years with success over Corentin Moutet in the tournament final.
Medvedev, a former world number one, has experienced a difficult period, achieving just one match at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.
His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his serving in especial - caused him dropping out of the elite rankings and eventually splitting with long-time coach Cervara.
Now training with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive victory over opponent Moutet.
It is Medvedev's maiden trophy following the Italian tournament and initial on a hardcourt since March of 2023.
The win also signifies he has won 21 championships at twenty-one various competitions.
"It's the first time I'm at a event with my both daughters simultaneously, so to secure a trophy is especially meaningful," stated world number 14 Medvedev.
"This victory is in honour of my second daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was born was for her."
The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, including in that event in the past months.
The player's retrieving approach and regular reactions on the tennis court had prompted some to wonder if his capacity to compete at the elite level was over.
Yet the player has altered his approach in the past month, making an effort to come to the net and perform aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.
The champion came back from a break down in the first set against the difficult opponent, winning four of the concluding five games to take the lead.
The pair swapped break points in the second set before the Frenchman, striving for his maiden ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a decider.
The opponent defended four initial chances in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to fifteen to close out the victory.
Appropriately, Medvedev earned the title with a rally at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to manage a return after a lengthy match.
